- Well I'm going to assume that the AT 1438 really is identical to the
- Microvitec 1438. I have had a few multiscan monitors and the 1438 has
- the sharpest picture of them all. The 1942 monitor only has a couple of
- frequencies it will lock to, so is OK with standard A1200 but A4000 with
- graphics card is going to be a bit of a waste.
-
- Also the focus on the 1438 is super sharp, excellent, the 1942 is plain
- 'soft'. The contrast is much higher on the 1438, the 1942 (and many
- other 'low end' mulisyncs) seems to be 'grey' in comparison. The 1942
- has a button on the front for stretching the horizontal width to full
- size the 1438 doesn't, so you will get half inch borders either side of
- the screen in Productivity screen mode etc.
-
- At one stage I owned a 1942 and a 1438, I sold the 1942! Some people
- really can't get on with the black borders at the sides, in which case
- get a 1942 second hand or save up a little more and get the Microvitec
- 1440 which is much better than the 1438. It has the same crystal
- clarity of the 1438 but incorporates digital screen sizing and memorises
- the width and height settings for every scan rate it meets (I think it
- can remember 40 settings). The only problem with these monitors IMHO is
- the price. If they were 199 and 299 UKP they would be good value.
- Whereas at 299 and 440 UKP they are almost as outrageous as the Amiga
- itself!!!
-
- Please bare in mind I have experience of only the Microvitec 1438 and
- have not actually used the rebadged AT version, but as the difference is
- only supposed to be, the inclusion of a pair of useless internal
- speakers, into the AT version I can't see the quality of the picture
- itself being different.
-
- So in conclusion, if you want super brightness excellent contrast and
- full width screen go for the Microvitec 1440. If you want full screen
- width and no need for any other than standard AGA screeen modes and
- don't mind the picture being a little soft, then go for the 1942. If
- you don't mind losing half inch either side in the highest screen modes
- but want pin sharp picture with high brightness and excellent contrast,
- go for the 1438. As you can see it's very much a personal discision,
- good luck.
-
- Me? I'm waiting for the 17 inch version of the 1440, but then again
- I've already made my choice ;-)
